Early Orthodontics

When should my child see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. This visit helps our doctors identify any concerns early and determine the best time for treatment. Your family dentist may also recommend an earlier visit if needed.

Why is an Early Evaluation Important?

Early evaluations can help guide jaw growth, create space for permanent teeth, reduce the risk of dental injuries, and make future treatment simpler. In some cases, they can also help correct habits like thumb sucking or improve speech and swallowing.

DOES EVERY CHILD NEED EARLY TREATMENT?
No. Many children don't need treatment right away. Some orthodontic issues are best treated after all permanent teeth have erupted. Every treatment plan is personalized to your child's needs.
WHAT IS THE ORTHODONTIC SUPERVISORY PROGRAM?
If your child isn't ready for treatment, we'll monitor their growth with checkups every 6 to 8 months at no cost. This allows us to begin treatment at the ideal time and achieve the best results.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?
Orthodontic treatment can improve your child's bite, make teeth easier to clean, reduce wear on teeth, and create a healthy, confident smile.

Will My Child Still Need Braces Later?

Possibly. Early treatment often corrects major issues and makes future treatment easier, but many children still benefit from a shorter phase of braces during their teen years.

Should My Child Still Visit the Family Dentist?

Yes. Regular dental checkups and cleanings every six months are important during orthodontic treatment to keep teeth and gums healthy.
